A trunk show featuring illesteva sunglasses

Sunday, April 3rd. 1pm-5pm

some details…

Sunset, the indie-pop recording project for Austin, TX native Bill Baird.  Baird describes Sunset as a project “still very much in its formative stages, [which] will probably remain that way for the duration of the project.” The dynamic nature of his approach to songwriting leads to an always-evolving sound, one constantly reaching for its true shape yet never settling in one form.  This goes a little ways towards explaining Sunset’s prolific output.

Handshakes is a band from Los Angeles (Echo Park), CA featuring ex-members of Wintergreen, Sputnik Monroe, and Controlling the Famous.

Holed up for most of 2010 writing songs tirelessly, Handshakes is currently finishing up their debut 5-song EP entitled “.”

—–ILLESTEVA was founded in 2009 by Daniel Silberman and born-and-raised New Yorker Jus Ske. Illesteva is handmade in Italy and Germany, in concert with the world’s leading manufacturers of luxury eyewear. The duo push normal boundaries of design by exploring fresh shapes and materials like acetate and bamboo, titanium and natural buffalo horn, with each new frame design. Drawing from their downtown lives, as well as their backgrounds in design, music, fashion, and photography, Silberman and Ske have created a brand of classic timeless pieces, meant to last a lifetime.——10% of all proceeds made from sales at the Supply Room will benefit Direct Relief for Japan

Eating Apples in Paradise featuring Macduff Everton, Elizabeth Folk, Nancy Gifford, Penelope Gottlieb, Saul Gray-Hildenbrand, Kimberly Hahn, Cyndee Howard, Hank Pitcher, Warren Schultheis, Steven Soria, Jonny Troyna, and James Van Arsdale

Santa Barbara is a paradise; Disneyland is a paradise; the U.S. is a paradise. Paradise is just paradise. Mournful, monotonous, and superficial though it may be, it is paradise. There is no other. - Jean Baudrillard, America

As early as the 1900’s, the city of Santa Barbara promoted itself and its environs as an idyllic setting. From Pearl Chase’s visions of utopia to the widespread dissemination of the resort destination via the eponymous soap opera and into today’s promotions by the Chamber of Commerce and Conference & Visitors’ Bureau, Santa Barbara has consciously sold and established itself as a modern-day paradise.

CAF dares 12 local artists to take a bite out of the proverbial apple with an exhibition exploring the realities and ambiguities of living in such an Edenic location. Via the artists’ works, this exhibition will reveal the multi-faceted issues of the region, both embracing and critiquing our history, sociology, and current conditions.
